Traditional Metal Braces
With traditional metal braces, brackets are bonded to the teeth or attached to bands that encircle the teeth. An archwire is inserted in the brackets and secured by ties (ligatures). These ties create drag (friction) that inhibits the intended tooth movement and transfers an unnecessary amount of pressure from the wire to the teeth.
Drs. Coombs & Beglin primarily use the Damon System of high-tech brackets and archwires.
Damon® Brackets
Damon® braces were invented by Dr. Dwight Damon. The Damon® bracket utilizes (sliding-door) technology known as "self-ligation" that allows the wire to slide back and forth within the bracket.
No elastic or steel ties are used with Damon® brackets. This technology creates less friction and results in greater comfort for the patient. In addition, Damon® braces often reduce both treatment time and the number of adjustments that are usually performed.
Damon ClearTM
Damon Clear is a crystal-clear, high-tech bracket that is fabricated out of a strong polycrystalline material and does not stain or discolor. It's clear door covers the wire in the braces making it less conspicuous. Drs. Coombs & Beglin use Damon Clear with a high-tech archwire, as shown here.
Invisalign®
The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.
